En route to a 36-point blowout on Friday, new Bucks guard Patrick Beverley was already up to his usual antics in his first game with his new team. Going viral for his actions on the sidelines, a new video shows Beverley playing coach as he rips the clipboard from Doc Rivers in a passionate segment on the sidelines.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard wanted no part of coach Beverley, and they can be seen walking off shortly after the veteran guard begins his coaching rant. Seconds later, Doc Rivers himself reached back for the clipboard, attempting (and failing) to regain control. Despite how the scene might look from an outside perspective, it’s just another day for Beverley, who was brought to the Bucks for this very reason.

Coming into the game, they were ranked in the bottom 10 on defense and they were 1-4 since Rivers took over after Adrian Griffin’s firing. As a tough and gritty perimeter defender, Beverley is someone who can bolster Milwaukee’s backline without sacrificing too much offensively. Beverley was inactive tonight as he continues his final preparations but it’s clear that he’s ready to get to work and try to win a title with the Bucks this season. In the minutes directly after the trade, he vowed to get to know his new teammates and even began the path of setting things right with his ex-rival Damian Lillard. It remains to be seen how things will look on the court for the Bucks, but they looked pretty good tonight against a far inferior opponent. Hopefully, it’s a sign that Doc Rivers is setting the team right and that he’s the one who can unlock their full potential for the upcoming postseason.

A Strange Season For The Milwaukee Bucks

After losing in the first round last season, the Bucks fired their longtime coach and brought in Adrian Griffin to establish a new culture. But when Damian Lillard arrived this past summer, it changed everything for the organization, and they immediately fell into win-now mode. But before the season even began, there were signs of trouble. The first red flag was the abrupt departure of Griffin’s top assistant, Terry Stotts, a guy who had coached and mentored Lillard for years with the Trail Blazers. He quit with seemingly no warning for reasons that are still unknown to this day.

Even after a relatively hot start to the season, experts were not impressed with the Bucks and many found them to be flawed to a major degree. Those concerns only got worse when the Bucks rallied against Griffin’s defensive game plan in favor of Mike Budenholzer’s system. Things got so bad in the end, when all faith in Griffin was lost, that Giannis began calling his own plays on the court and outright ignoring the oversight of his coach. Eventually, Griffin was let go after just a few months on the job and now Doc Rivers is in charge with a lot of work to be done. In short, it’s been a revolving door of chaos in Milwaukee this season but there is enough talent to believe that the Bucks can still pull off something special this season if they can stay healthy and lock in for the playoffs.
