Anthony Edwards hilariously mocked Kawhi Leonard in the closing stages of the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Clippers. With the two of them jostling for a rebound as Rudy Gobert was attempting a free throw, Edwards called Leonard an ‘old n***a.’

When you’re just 22 years old like Edwards, a 32-year-old like Kawhi would be a very old man. Leonard certainly didn’t play like an old man in the game, as he had 26 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, but he did get outplayed by Edwards.
The Timberwolves star had 33 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals, as he led Minnesota to a 109-105 win. Gobert’s clutch free throws were huge as well as the Timberwolves improved to 28-11. The Clippers, meanwhile, dropped to 25-14 with this loss.
Anthony Edwards Explains Why He Looks Forward To Playing Against The Clippers
Edwards had lost his first six games against the Clippers in his career but he flipped the script after that. With this win, he has now emerged victorious in four of his last five games against them, and Edwards explained that he looks forward to playing the Clippers because their stars like to iso.
“That’s why I look forward to playing them all the time,” Edwards said. “Because regardless of what’s in front of Kawhi, (Paul George) or James (Harden), they’re going to try to iso you. You gotta take pride in that challenge and try to stand them up. Kawhi gave me a tough bucket today, but other than that I think I did a pretty good job.”

While many of today’s younger stars don’t seem to care a lot about defending, you can’t say that about Edwards. He takes a lot of pride in it, which is great to see, and Edwards has played his part in the Timberwolves having a league-best defensive rating of 108.4 this season.
Kawhi Leonard On How Anthony Edwards Has Improved This Season
Edwards is averaging 26.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game in 2023-24, and is the biggest reason why the Timberwolves are atop the standings in the Western Conference. After this contest, Leonard spoke on how Edwards has improved this season.
“Just more patient and just more experience,” Leonard said. “That’s all it takes, playing more and wanting it and working on your game. I think I’m seeing that from him and obviously, he was patient tonight. Took the good looks that he got and made them.”

Edwards is only going to get better as the years go by and that is a scary thought for the rest of the league. The Clippers came into that contest as one of the hottest teams in the league (17-3 in their last 20 games) and Edwards took them apart.
With the way things are going, he looks set to lead the Timberwolves to their best-ever record in the regular season in franchise history. Minnesota went 58-24 in the 2003-04 season, and unless the injury bug strikes, I can see surpassing that win total.
That season also saw the Timberwolves make the Conference Finals for the first and only time in franchise history. This group has the potential to match that feat as well.
