In just two seasons with the Lakers, young guard Austin Reaves has become a core component of the rotation. And while a lot of it has to do with Reaves’ own hard work and natural talent, his willingness to learn from one of the all-time greatest has no doubt also played a role in his impressive play so far.

“He’s first in the gym, the last to leave. His body of work… not many people can play this long. Nobody has done it at this high of a level. He basically lays out the blueprint for you. You just got to pay attention and apply that to yourself.”

LeBron is notorious for taking care of his body and he spends millions every year to keep himself in peak condition. This dedication is why he continues to dominate at 38 years old and why he’s making a case as the GOAT after a successful 20+ year career.

“I asked him ‘what’s tomorrow look like for you?’ And he’s like ‘I’ll do treatment at 10, get a massage at 11. Eat. And he kept going on about treatment stuff… And I was like ‘so your day is treatment?’ And he said ‘pretty much.'”

Most players aren’t willing to put in that much work on their off days, much less do it for two decades and counting. But LeBron has always been different from the rest and his dedication to his craft has worked to great success in keeping the King at the top of the basketball food chain.

LeBron James Is The King Of Longevity

As a 4x MVP, 4x champion, and 19x All-Star, LeBron James has nothing left to prove in the NBA. And yet, even with a historically great resume, LeBron continues to keep pace with the best players in the world. This season, with averages of 25.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists, LeBron has easily been the best player on the Lakers and he’s setting a new standard for NBA veterans across the league.

The secret to LeBron’s success? As Reaves alluded to in his chat with JJ Redick, it’s LeBron’s commitment to treatment and care for his body that separates him from other players. He allegedly spends over $1.5 million every year on maintaining his body and that includes time in the hyperbaric chamber. So when it comes to work ethic and dedication to excellence, LeBron is the shining example in the modern NBA and his teammates are making sure to pay attention.

Austin Reaves Is The Future In Los Angeles

LeBron James is the best player on the Lakers and they will only go as far as he takes them, but LeBron not going to play forever and the Lakers only have so much time to prepare before he walks away from the game for good. If the Lakers want to set themselves up for prosperity, they’ll need Austin Reaves to continue his ascension and blossom into a borderline co-star for Anthony Davis.

At the very least, Reaves can use what he’s learned from LeBron to maximize his body, keep himself in peak conditioning, and sustain good health for his entire career. Only time will tell how things play out for Reaves and the Lakers, but LeBron has already shown his teammate the path to a long and successful NBA career.
