NBA fans are still looking for answers regarding the ongoing situation with OKC Thunder guard Josh Giddey. In the aftermath of some wild accusations on social media, the league has been uncharacteristically silent on the issue and fans have been wondering the reason why. According to Adam Silver himself, who spoke with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, there’s not yet enough conclusive evidence to take any official action.
“I can’t think of many circumstances where we’ve suspended a player based on an allegation alone,” said Silver. “So in this case we have an allegation, and then you have a police investigation, and then you have a league investigation. I will also add that where there is a criminal investigation, we take a backseat… That’s where things currently stand.”

Complete with pictures and videos, the accusation looked pretty damning for Giddey, who responded by clearing his social media and turning off comments on his profile. Online, the discourse was very intense as fans from all over demanded that the NBA hold Giddey to the same standards as they did for Ja Morant, Miles Bridges, Kevin Porter Jr., and other controversial players.
To date, Giddey has not received so much as a warning from the league but it turns out that there’s more to the story than originally revealed. Giddey was 19 when he met up with the girl and it was a one-night stand that he promptly ended when he discovered her proper age. As another layer of shadiness to the story, neither the underage girlfriend nor her family have been cooperating with authorities.
Business As Usual For The Thunder
Besides some throwaway statements from Giddey and Thunder coach Mark Daigneault, the Thunder haven’t said much on this controversy and that’s unlikely to change in the near future. As recently as this past Wednesday, Giddey was starting for the Thunder and he played 24 minutes in their loss to the Houston Rockets. Like it or not, Giddey is a core member of the Thunder and they will not turn on him so easily.
With averages of 11.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, Giddey hasn’t been letting the drama affect his game either, and the same could be said of the Thunder as a whole, who are 13-7 on the season. Looking ahead, there is no telling how this situation plays out for Giddey. Depending on the NBA’s investigation, his career could go in any number of ways but until definitive proof of his actions is discovered, there will always be questions about his character off the court.
