In the aftermath of a shocking health scare this past July, Bronny James is finally set to make his college debut. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the rising star has officially been cleared for full basketball activities.
“Bronny James is now cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball. Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after,” it was revealed in a statement.
As the heir to the James empire, Bronny is facing a lot of pressure to live up to the hype and fill the shoes of his father, who will retire one day as one of the top two greatest players ever. And while Bronny still has a long way to go before he reaches those heights, there is a lot of optimism about what kind of player he can be for USC, and in the NBA.
What Happened With Bronny?
Since his days on the court first began years ago, Bronny was always seen in good health and always appeared in top condition year after year. As the son of one of basketball’s most durable athletes, this was no surprise for any student of the game. Unfortunately, things took a concerning turn when Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest in the summer of 2023, drawing some serious questions about his health and long-term viability for NBA action. Later, it was revealed the incident was caused by a congenital heart defect that was treated by specialists at the Atlantic Health-Morristown Medical Center.
Now, with Brony fully recovered and no signs of trouble, he’s on the fast track to an official return and it’s only a matter of time before we see him in action once again. The only question now is how long it will take him to round into form, and where he will end up when/if he makes the jump to the NBA. Depending on how he plays, he could become an early pick in the 2024 draft — but wherever he goes, his father is likely to follow.
LeBron Aims To Join Forces With His Son
It’s no secret that LeBron wants to become NBA teammates with Bronny before it’s all said and done and it’s very possible that he can make it happen. Currently, despite being in his 21st season, LeBron is still one of the best players in the world and there’s no reason to think he won’t be playing at a high level for at least one or two more years. Next season, whether Bronny lands with the Lakers or some other team in the draft, LeBron will have the power to choose his destiny and he’s made it clear what he wants to do at this stage of his career.
If you’re the Lakers, you must do everything you can to draft Bronny and keep the both of them in town together for years to come, but that’s obviously much easier said than done. So, as Bronny recovers over the next few weeks, it’ll be interesting to see how the narrative changes and how he faces the pressure of taking the next step in his basketball career.
