WWE icon Ric Flair has chimed in on the LeBron James–Michael Jordan debate, and he firmly believes that the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is the greater player.
“6’8″, 265 lbs (vs.) 6’6″, 215, I know he (Jordan) was unreal, but what record does LeBron need to break,” Flair asked on the Club Shay Shay podcast.
Considering Flair’s ties with North Carolina, this sure was an interesting selection. When Shannon Sharpe asked him to pick between the two, the 74-year-old again made it clear which side he was on.
“I got LeBron, yeah,” Flair said. “I mean, I don’t know what else he can do.”
(starts at 0:42 mark):
LeBron has had an incredible career, having won four NBA titles, four Finals MVPs, and four MVPs, to list just some of his major accolades. He became the league’s all-time leading scorer earlier this year and is far from done either, despite being in his 21st season.
While all of that is great, I’m sure his critics will point to many more things he has to accomplish to be regarded as greater than the Chicago Bulls icon. We also listed out what James must win in order to surpass Jordan as the GOAT.
Ric Flair Wanted To Strangle An ESPN Analyst For Saying LeBron Is An Old Man
If it wasn’t clear enough, Flair is a huge LeBron fan. So, when he heard ESPN analyst Alan Hahn call James an old man, Flair nearly snapped.
(starts at 0:14 mark):
“Alan Hahn calls him an old man,” Flair stated. “… What an insult. I wanted to jump through the TV and strangle this guy.”
Hahn probably needs to make sure he doesn’t end up in the same room as Flair anytime soon.
While LeBron is certainly old in basketball terms at 38, he certainly isn’t playing like an old man. The 19-time All-Star is averaging 25.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in the 2023-24 season.
He has once again been the driving force for the Lakers in this campaign and it’s largely thanks to him that they even sport a 9-7 record.
Ric Flair Blasted NBA Players For Load Management
Flair is a longtime NBA fan, having followed the league closely for so many decades at this point. Like so many of the old heads, though, he is not a fan of players sitting out of games from time and time, and Flair blasted NBA players for load management.
“These basketball players that whine and b***h, it’s taken a lot of the sport away from me,” Flair said. “They [professional wrestlers] go to work hurt. That’s what pisses me off today about these basketball players that stub their toe. No s**t. How do you think I feel about that knowing I wrestled six months after I broke my back in a f*****g airplane crash? ‘I got a torn thumbnail. Whoa, whoa, whoa.”
Considering how these wrestlers had to perform while dealing with some serious injuries, I can’t say I’m surprised that Flair came down so hard on the players. We know by now, though, that a lot of the time, it is the team that wants the player to sit out, if they believe he is at risk of suffering an injury. They want to protect their asset and you can’t blame them too much for that.
