The Golden State Warriors just picked up a dominant 28-point road win after beating a Brandon Ingram-less Pelicans side. Stephen Curry went nuclear and dropped 42 points on 22 shots, as the Pelicans lost their first game of the season and the Warriors improved their record to 3-1.
Fans were extremely impressed with Curry’s performance, hailing the point guard on social media.

A Warriors fan broke down all the reasons this win has made him hopeful for the future of the franchise this season.
Warriors tonight:
-Curry is the GOAT
-GPII is one of the best role player I've ever seen
-Draymond is still HIM on defense – shut Zion down
-CP3 playing backup PG is unfair
-TJD is damn good
-Moody + 18 in 20 min as a starter
-Saric/TJD combo was amazing – 2 bigs!
-Kerr COOKED

Analyst Shane Young put into perspective how unbelievable the numbers Curry put up in this game are.
No big deal, just 42 points on 83.7% true shooting for Steph Curry.
His 35th career game eclipsing those marks. Nobody else has more than 15.

The Warriors were comprehensively the better team in this contest. Even with Klay Thompson being rested on the second night of a back-to-back, the Warriors adjusted and played really well with Moses Moody as the starter. In addition to Curry’s 42 points, the Warriors saw Moody, Chris Paul, and rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis all score 13 points each in the win.
The Pelicans came out flat and were unable to keep up with the Warriors on either end. Even with many defensive specialists on the roster, the Pelicans didn’t find any success in this game. Zion Williamson led them in scoring with 19 points, tied with C.J. McCollum. Rookie Jordan Hawkins had a solid night with 14 points, even though he had many ‘welcome to the NBA’ moments while guarding Steph.
Stephen Curry Has Started The Season On Fire
Stephen Curry has started the season with phenomenal averages of 33.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He’s shooting 55.7% from the field and 47.1% from three. While these numbers aren’t sustainable over 82 games, they show how potent Curry can make the Warriors offense by himself. With most of his teammates having a slow start to the season offensively, Curry is carrying this load on his back.
The only game where Curry has had a somewhat poor performance came last night against the Rockets. Steph had only scored 10 points through the first three quarters, clearly feeling the impact of the Rockets’ defensive schemes. However, there was no stopping Curry in the fourth as he put up 14 points to snatch the win from the Rockets while also humiliating Dillon Brooks with a behind-the-back crossover and three.
The Warriors will hope this form continues in what is shaping up to be an incredibly challenging Western Conference. The Chris Paul fit is looking better with each passing game and Curry still looks like an MVP. The signs are positive; it’s just a question of the Warriors delivering on their championship potential.
