Kevin Durant was feeling himself in Thursday’s preseason game against LeBron James and the Lakers. En route to a 123-100 win, Durant scored 21 points in the contest including a nasty turnaround jump shot over Austin Reaves. In a clip that has since gone viral online, Durant can be seen making the basket before quietly whispering “don’t have him guard me next week.”

Heading into his 16th season, Kevin Durant has big ambitions with the Phoenix Suns. Following his trade from the Nets last season, Durant signed with the Suns with hopes of competing for a championship alongside Devin Booker. So far, Kevin has yet to accomplish his mission in Phoenix after losing in the second round last year but with a revamped roster and new head coach, there is confidence they can win the West.

Kevin Durant Is On A Mission

Drafted in 2007, Kevin Durant rose to stardom almost right away, making the All-Star team by his third season in the league. Measuring at 6’10”, Durant’s height and 7’5″ wingspan make him impossible to guard on the court and it’s why he’s been a steady 25-point-per-game scorer since his second season in 2008. Currently, Durant really has nothing left to prove as a 2x champion but the doubters will not let up until he wins a title without the help of Stephen Curry.

This season, Durant probably has his best odds yet of winning another title. Coming off another brilliant season, Durant will be joined by Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and longtime sharpshooter Eric Gordon, among others, and they are projected to be among the favorites in the West. But to defeat the likes of the Warriors, Nuggets, and Lakers, Durant will have to rise to the occasion like he never has before.

Lakers Vs. Suns In The Western Conference

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are sure to give the NBA some problems next season. In 2020, we saw what they could do together when healthy and they won the championship amid unprecedented circumstances. For the 2023-24 campaign, the Lakers will need help from other guys like Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Rui Hachimura to win the title and only a fool would count them out.

Meanwhile, in Phoenix, Suns owner Mat Ishbia has pulled all the stops to give his team the best chance to win. By chasing the big names this summer, the Suns have become the closest thing we have to a superteam right now, but they do have some notable players coming off the bench as well. For it to come together for them this season, they’ll need total buy-in from top to bottom, which is something they haven’t had since their Finals run two years ago.

Needless to say, the race for the title this season will be intense, especially in the West, but it could involve the last battle in what has been a nearly twenty-year war between LeBron James and Kevin Durant. No matter which side you’re on in the conversation, there is still more to be written on this epic saga, and the latest chapter is about to begin next Tuesday.
