His comments were not well received by some members of the NBA community. Shannon Sharpe has now called him out for giving out roster spots on the Milwaukee Bucks to his brothers.

“Adrian Griffin, you got a new coach. Hell give him a chance. You gave Mike Budenholzer a chance,” Shannon Sharpe said about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s comments about potentially leaving the Bucks.

“And you got your brothers occupying two roster spots. Are we gonna talk about that? You know good and well Giannis, your brothers probably not going to be playing for any other team in the NBA except Milwaukee. And that’s only because of you.”

Shannon Sharpe then referred to Giannis’ comments, saying, “So you keep talking about surrounding you with talent. There’s two spots being occupied by your brothers.”

Giannis Antetokounmpos’ brother, Thanasis, has been an end-of-bench player with the Milwaukee Bucks since 2019. And while there can be claims made about whether he deserves a roster spot or not, Shannon Sharpe’s fundamental point has an error in it.

Only Thanasis Antetokounmpo Is On The Milwaukee Bucks’ NBA Roster

Shannon Sharpe went off on Giannis Antetokounmpo for two of his brothers having roster spots on the Milwaukee Bucks, but he has got his facts wrong on that front.

The Bucks did sign Giannis’ younger brother Alex to a reported non-guaranteed 1-year deal earlier in the offseason. This made the news and people thought that the Greek Freak would have two brothers on the Bucks’ roster going into next season.

However, Alex Antetokounmpo was waived by the Bucks after just 24 hours, and reports then explained the signing was simply to allow Milwaukee greater control over his G-League rights.

“Per a league source, the Bucks have signed and waived Alex Antetokounmpo. They did this with him last offseason as well.

“It allows the Bucks to retain his G-League rights and makes Antetokounmpo eligible for a bonus worth up to $75K if he spends at least 60 days with the Herd.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo is generally an easygoing individual, but he’s never afraid to bring the smoke. Thanasis Antetokounmpo has his podcast too. With a glaring error in the facts, Shannon Sharpe could be in line to face some spicy rebuttals on social media.

NBA Executives Believe Thansis Antetokounmpo Doesn’t Deserve An NBA Roster Spot

While Shannon Sharpe did get some of his facts wrong, the larger sentiment isn’t unpopular. Many fans troll Thanasis Antetokounmpo for being undeserving of a roster spot.

And it’s not just the fans and media figures that say things like this, NBA executives reportedly also feel that Thansis Antetokounmpo doesn’t deserve a spot in the league.

When asked about it, an anonymous NBA GM said, “‘Hey, we know what that’s all about. It’s all about appeasing Giannis. But to answer your question, no.’”

Giannis Antetokounmpo is very close to his family, they’ve come through some difficult times together. As a competitor, his spirit cannot be questioned.

He is a champion, Finals MVP, and two-time MVP. But this take from Shannon Sharpe is likely to cause him some pain and could see him speak out on social media as well.
