- Chiney Ogwumike claimed that there is “optimism” about Kawhi Leonard and Paul George
- Paul George is confident going into the season
- The Los Angeles Clippers were eliminated in the first round
During their tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers, the duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George has not managed to get further than the Western Conference Finals. They have clearly been disappointing despite being expected to be contenders every season that they’ve been together.
Despite that, it seems as though there is some positive news regarding the duo going into the season. NBA insider Chiney Ogwumike revealed that there is “optimism” about how they look going into the season, with the insider also noting that Paul George has a “quiet confidence” entering the season.
“There is optimism around how [Kawhi Leonard and PG-13] look in their workouts… And also, I hear a lot of great energy from Paul George… it just feels like there’s this quiet confidence that he has of going into this season.”

There is no doubt that Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have the chance to win a championship if they can remain healthy. It is good to see that there is optimism from the squad about them this year, but ultimately, the duo is going to be judged by fans in the playoffs and by their health in their regular season.
The good news though, is about Paul George’s mindset going into the season. The star has at times struggled to be aggressive offensively next to Kawhi Leonard, and perhaps feeling more confident means that we’ll see a more consistent Paul George. Last season, George averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists for the Clippers, and we’ll see how he does this season.
Steve Ballmer Called Out NBA Fans For Discounting The Clippers
There is no doubt that people have started discounting the Clippers, due to their continued injury issues, especially in the playoffs. However, they still have the talent to be on even footing with almost any team in the league if they can stay healthy. In fact, Steve Ballmer previously called out NBA fans for discounting the Clippers.
“We’re never gonna be all we can be unless we’re in nobody’s shadow. I think of that as a contribution I can make to our fans. I can help put us in a position, if you guys can deliver that to our fans then that’s what it’s about… but people don’t give us our due. So I think at this stage people discount us, probably a little chip on our shoulders right now. I think we got a little bit of something to prove.”
Hopefully, we see the Los Angeles Clippers prove everyone wrong next season. All they need is to win one championship in the Kawhi Leonard-Paul George era, though that is obviously easier said than done.
The Clippers Are Clearly Good When Kawhi Leonard And Paul George Are Healthy
From a talent standpoint, it is fair to say that the Los Angeles Clippers can be dangerous when they’re healthy. In fact, Tyronn Lue broke the silence on Kawhi Leonard and Paul George after a disappointing season, claiming that when they play the Clippers are an “amazing team”.
“We expect him [Kawhi] to be ready by training camp,” said Lue. “He’s done a great job of rehabbing and getting his body ready, and he will be ready when training camp hits. We just gotta be ready for training camp, with our medical staff making sure we’re doing the right thing. Same thing with PG. When those two guys play, we are an amazing team, and I don’t want tour fans to be disappointed because a lot of nights these guys are playing through injuries.”
Hopefully, we see something change for the Los Angeles Clippers next season. All they need is a little bit of luck when it comes to durability, and hopefully, they can make a deep run this year.
