Markieff Morris wants to get his revenge on Nikola Jokic after Jokic's 2021 push led to Morris missing a lot of time.

• Morris is vowing to ‘get his’ against Jokic, as the pair haven’t faced off in an NBA game since

In a game between the Nuggets and Heat in November 2021, Nikola Jokic and Markieff Morris got into a heated on-court altercation. Morris would agitate Jokic with hard fouls early in the game, which led to Jokic pushing Morris in the back and causing injuries that led to Morris missing 58 games that season.

Morris hasn’t forgiven Jokic for that incident, vowing to get his revenge on the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast.

“A sucker shot, that’s what we call it in our hood… The shot was it was a little hard, it was a little whiplash. So I mean to be 350 catching me off guard it really ain’t do shit but at the time I was a little off. It was more so with the Miami Heat, they were just trying to protect me from myself. I was cleared to play like two weeks after that, they just held me out… Took a sucker shot, it’s like when you get – they call it snuck – he snuck me yeah. It was a sucker shot, he gon’ get his though.”

“What you fining me for? I’m the one who got hit!”

Morris is currently a free agent after spending last season with the Nets and Mavericks. The Mavs were expected to re-sign Morris but nothing official has been announced just yet. Dallas could still change their mind, leaving Mook without a club just a few weeks away from training camp.

He averaged 3.8 points and 2.0 rebounds last season.

Was Threatening Nikola Jokic A Good Decision By Markieff?

NBA players do not issue threats like this in the open that often, so it was bizarre to see Markieff be so openly confrontational with Jokic. Given that Jokic also has brothers who will be willing to scrap with the Morris twins, I won’t be surprised if they are in attendance for any games that feature Markieff going up against Jokic, provided he finds a home in the league before.

For a free agent to make statements like that is very bold. This further reinforces the fact that Morris knows where he will start the next season, just waiting to have an official contract offered to him. The former NBA Champion could provide value at the end of the rotation for many teams as a solid three-and-D option, though his proficiency on the court has declined heavily.

Morris was barely getting minutes on the Mavericks as their season collapsed, reinforcing how far back in their rotation he was. Threatening the reigning Finals MVP may cause some teams to back off if they had an interest in signing him.

If he comes back to the Mavs, the NBA will have some fantastic content for the in-season tournament game towards the start of the season between the franchises.

Nikola Jokic Has Risen Above Petty Rivalries

After ascending to the championship mountain, it’s unlikely Jokic will let a beef with Markieff Morris hold him back. Jokic is in conversation with the game’s all-time greats and needs to remain focused on helping the Nuggets become a dynasty.

He was punished for the shove on Morris when he had attempted it with a fine and a suspension, so he’s likely moved on.

If Morris reinstigates this battle when the players meet, it’ll be interesting to see how Jokic responds. Morris does have the body type of being a smaller and slightly faster big man with active hands that could cause problems for Jokic. But as Morris slides into irrelevance in the NBA and Jokic moves towards the pantheon of all-time greats, it’s unlikely they would come to scraps during a game.
