Alex Antetokounmpo played for the Bucks’ G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd last season, and averaged 5.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 32 games.

Taking into account this knowledge, it does make sense that the Milwaukee Bucks aren’t quite ready just yet to have him get a roster spot on the main team as they try to contend for an NBA championship in the 2023-24 season.

The Milwaukee Bucks Waived Alex Antetokounmpo So They Could Retain His G League Rights

There was speculation after Alex Antetokounmpo was signed that the Milwaukee Bucks were doing it so they could keep Giannis Antetokounmpo happy.

However, it seems like the plan from the team was a lot more intricate than that and they are trying to give the 22-year-old more time to develop at the G League level.

Milwaukee Bucks beat reporter Eric Nehm provided insight into the situation, writing, “Per a league source, the Bucks have signed and waived Alex Antetokounmpo. They did this with him last offseason as well.

“It allows the Bucks to retain his G-League rights and makes Antetokounmpo eligible for a bonus worth up to $75K if he spends at least 60 days with the Herd.”

This is the second time in a year that the Milwaukee Bucks have done this with Alex Antetokounmpo, and one has to assume that they have some sort of plan that they have explained to him.

The franchise has to have a plan in place if they are doing this with Giannis Antetokounmpo’s younger brother. They cannot afford to make any mistakes that make Giannis unhappy following his comments about potentially leaving the franchise in the future.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Can Still Play With His Brothers For Greece

Giannis Antetokounmpo is incredibly close to his brothers, and everyone knows that his dream is to play alongside them as much as he can.

The signing of Alex would have allowed Giannis to play with both him and Thanasis Antetokounmpo for the next season, but he can still play alongside them for the Greek national team.

Giannis Antetokounmpo described the feeling of playing with his brothers as a dream come true.

“It’s a dream come true. We’ve been saying that one day we’ll achieve this. It makes us proud to guard each other in the practice of the national team proud.

“Our mother can’t wait to come to the games. But when they enter the court, they are my teammates, not my brothers.”

The Antetokounmpo brothers have a bright future ahead of them and there is every chance that Alex can make it to the Bucks in the future.
