  • The Los Angeles Lakers land two elite veteran role players in Bobby Portis and Grayson Allen
  • The Milwaukee Bucks get D’Angelo Russell for offense, and add Jarred Vanderbilt for defense alongside draft picks to make future trades

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks are both teams that will try to compete for the championship next season. Both teams have superstars that are playing at a high level, Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James, and need to win immediately while their respective championship windows are open.

  • Milwaukee Bucks Add A Creative Offensive Guard And A Defensive Role Player
  • This Could Be A Solid Trade For Both The Lakers And The Bucks

Perhaps the two teams could enact a trade with one another that helps them both. In our trade scenario, we send Bobby Portis and Grayson Allen to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and draft compensation.

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Bobby Portis, Grayson Allen

Milwaukee Bucks Receive: D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, 2024 Second-Round Pick (LAC), 2025 Second-Round Pick (LAC), 2025 Second-Round Pick (LAL)

This is an intriguing trade for both teams, and from a basketball standpoint, it can benefit both teams immediately. This deal would see them exchange playoff-ready veterans with plenty of experience. Here is why the Bucks and Lakers should consider making this trade at some point before the season starts.

Los Angeles Lakers Land A Good Frontcourt Partner For Anthony Davis And A 3 And D Guard

Bobby Portis was a key role player for the Milwaukee Bucks during their 2021 championship run, and many appreciate the effort with which he plays and his passion on the court. His championship experience should be a boon for the Los Angeles Lakers, who are trying to win next season while LeBron James and Anthony Davis still are playing at a superstar level.

Last season, Bobby Portis averaged 14.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 37.0% from 3PT range on 3.7 attempts. The Los Angeles Lakers don’t really have a quality big man outside of Anthony Davis right now, and in theory, Portis can be a perfect complement to Davis on both ends of the floor as a frontcourt partner. Portis is able to guard both the PF and the C position and can take some of the pressure off of Davis on that end of the floor. On top of that, his floor spacing ability should help open things up for both Davis and LeBron James, who prefer to operate near the rim.

As of right now, Bobby Portis is a sixth man on the Milwaukee Bucks. On the Los Angeles Lakers, he would likely get a starting role and more opportunity to shine. He fills a clear need for the Lakers right now, and if he is available, the Lakers should try to get him.

The Los Angeles Lakers would also get Grayson Allen in this trade, who has shown that he is a decent 3 and D guard. He fits the Lakers’ identity due to his hustle on that end of the floor and could be perfect as a bench option for the team. During the 2022-23 season, Grayson Allen averaged 10.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 39.9% from 3PT range.

This deal has a few purposes for the Los Angeles Lakers. They would be able to overwhelm teams with their size and defense while maintaining their overall 3PT shooting ability. Adding two key role players is just what the team needs to compete with the rest of the elite teams in the Western Conference.

Milwaukee Bucks Add A Creative Offensive Guard And A Defensive Role Player

The Milwaukee Bucks are a team that could potentially use D’Angelo Russell and are one of the few teams that can potentially withstand his poor defense. He would give the team consistent shooting and scoring, and his playmaking ability could potentially get Giannis Antetokounmpo more easy buckets. The team also needs injury insurance, as Khris Middleton has shown to be injury-prone in recent years. D’Angelo Russell could clearly be a valuable regular-season player for the team, and he is definitely an upgrade on Grayson Allen on the offensive end. This past season, D’Angelo Russell averaged 17.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists for the team.

In this deal, the Milwaukee Bucks would also get Jarred Vanderbilt, who can potentially replicate some of Bobby Portis’ defensive impact for the team. He is a player who is fully comfortable guarding all five positions and also excels at rebounding. Jarred Vanderbilt put up 7.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game for the Lakers last season.

The second-round picks would be included in this deal to help the Milwaukee Bucks recoup some assets. That should give them more flexibility to make trades, and perhaps they could use them in another trade for a highly impactful piece in the future.

Overall, the Milwaukee Bucks add more guard offense with D’Angelo Russell while also maintaining a similar level of defense with Vanderbilt’s addition. Every team needs creative guards to thrive offensively, and this trade would get the Bucks just that. D’Angelo Russell can definitely increase their ceiling on that end of the floor, and perhaps he is the right player to get them back to championship ways.

This Could Be A Solid Trade For Both The Lakers And The Bucks

There is no doubt that this could be a decent basketball move for both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks. Both teams would get solid role players who are good fits next to their superstars. It would be a win-win trade that furthers both teams’ ambitions to win a championship.

It will be interesting to see if a deal with this framework ends up happening in the future. It could be a mutually beneficial trade, and we will see what ends up happening in the future.
