  • Anthony Edwards has gotten a chance to play under Erik Spoelstra with Team USA
  • Edwards says he now realizes what Heat culture is
  • Edwards lauded Spoelstra for his impact on the team

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is one of the assistant coaches for Team USA at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, and he has made quite an impression on Anthony Edwards. The Minnesota Timberwolves star stated that playing under Spoelstra has made him understand what Heat Culture is.

“He’s been dope man, bringing a lot of energy, the ‘Heat Culture,”‘ Edwards said. “It’s exciting to see. His first day with the scout (team), I was like, ‘Okay, I see what they mean when they say Heat Culture’. He came in with a lot of energy, getting right to the point, super precise with the details, so it’s dope.”

For those on the outside, it’s not always easy to grasp what Heat Culture is. There is a notion that the whole thing is overblown, but the players who have been in there, swear by it.

Andre Iguodala has won four championships in eight seasons with the Golden State Warriors, but they aren’t necessarily the example he’d follow when building a team.

Iguodala said he would take 95% of Heat Culture if he ever got to run an NBA team, and he only spent two seasons with them.

The Heat Culture has played a role in the team making the NBA Finals twice in the last four seasons, despite not being the squad with the most talent. They just bring the very best out of all of their players and deserve respect.

You’d think Edwards would be taking some of what he has seen from Spoelstra, back to the Timberwolves locker room. The Wolves certainly could do with some help in learning what it takes to succeed in the NBA, and the Heat are a great example to follow.

Erik Spoelstra Had High Praise For Anthony Edwards

The admiration certainly isn’t one-sided in this case. Spoelstra said Edwards reminds him of Dwyane Wade as he sees a lot of similarities between them.

Spoelstra was Wade’s head coach for much of his tenure in Miami, and they won two championships together. It’s just about as high praise as one can get from Spoelstra.

Edwards would be hoping that he can have a career like Wade, who was enshrined in the Hall of Fame earlier this month.

The 24-year-old averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in the 2022-23 season. His efforts were rewarded with a spot on the All-Star team as well, and Edwards’ stock is growing at a rapid rate.

If he keeps at it, he seems destined to be one of the best players in the league.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
