- Erik Spoelstra said it is “hard” to not see Dwyane Wade in Anthony Edwards
- The coach noted similarities in movement and playstyle
- Dwyane Wade was also a hyper-athletic shooting guard
Shooting guard Anthony Edwards is considered the face of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and there’s no doubt that he is one of the most exciting young players in the league. He is highly regarded due to his shot creation and athleticism, with many believing that he has a superstar ceiling.
Coach Erik Spoelstra has coached a number of superstars during his time as a coach, and he clearly knows what greatness looks like. In fact, he recently compared Anthony Edwards to Dwyane Wade, noting that they move in a similar fashion.
“It’s hard to look at Anthony Edwards and not see Dwyane Wade… The way he moves, competes, and electrifies the crowd. Yes, that reminds me of number 3.”

It is quite clear that Anthony Edwards is one of the biggest competitors in the league, and he often elevates his game against the best players. He has clearly been the best scorer on the Team USA squad that will compete in the FIBA World Cup, and Edwards seems primed for another elite year in the NBA as well.
This past season, Anthony Edwards averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. It will be interesting to see if he can develop even further, and perhaps we’ll see Edwards make an All-NBA team in 2024.
Anthony Edwards Joined Team USA Because Of The Legends That Inspired His Journey
It is definitely good to see a young talent like Anthony Edwards suit up for the national team and play for the United States. Edwards previously opened up on how Kobe Bryant and other superstars inspired him to join Team USA.
“I just wanted to play in it because Kobe (Bryant) played in it,” Anthony Edwards said. “Because Michael Jordan played in it. Vince Carter, when he jumped over buddy, he almost punched Kevin Garnett in the face after he jumped over him.”
Hopefully, one day, Anthony Edwards can be viewed in the same light as all the legendary shooting guards that he mentioned here and is compared to regularly. He definitely has the talent to be a truly special player, and if the Minnesota Timberwolves can surround Edwards with talent, they can be contenders over the next few seasons.
