- JJ Redick was confident of dishing out points at the JV level
- The former Sixers star was a lethal sharpshooter during his time
- Redick has an illustrious 15-season run in the NBA
JJ Redick may have called time on his NBA career after 15 seasons in 2021, but he’s still confident that he could pour at least 60 to 80 points in a junior varsity game.
Speaking in a previous interview, Redick was asked about his thoughts on an average score he would put up in a JV game, to which he replied:
“Well, I haven’t played basketball in two years. I’m wildly out of shape. I would be a little concerned with my conditioning level. You know, JV game… you have to figure probably only eight-minute quarters, so that’s 32 minutes of action.”
“I’m going to say at least two points a minute, 64 conservatively, but I’ll say probably closer to 75 or 80.”
That’s ample confidence from a player who hasn’t played competitive basketball in a couple of years, but Redick is a seasoned veteran, so the muscle memory comes in right after he laces up on the court.
Chances are that he might drain more than 60 points even if he plays every alternate day if he gets his conditioning back on track.
In his time as a player, Redick averaged 12.8 points 2.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 940 career games. The guard was a journeyman in the NBA playing for six franchises since his start in 2006-07.
Redick was selected with the 11th pick in the 2006 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic. After spending seven seasons with the team averaging 9.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
His better performances were his two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers averaging 17.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists from 146 games. Known for his perimeter shooting and basketball IQ, Redick was considered one of the more lethal players when he was in his element.
Just How Good Was JJ Redick?
For those familiar with Redick, he had an accomplished career on the court. The former national collegiate player of the year during his time at Duke was an adept three-point shooter. His 41.5% from beyond the arc puts him on the list of the top 20 players with the highest three-point percentage.
Redick might not have an NBA championship to his name, but like former Chicago Bulls star and Golden State Warriors Head coach Steve Kerr, he was the perfect role player delivering in key moments of the game.
At 39, Redick still has the frame of an athlete who can contribute to a team at the highest level. Now, the world has a chance to see him share his astute analysis of the game as an analyst.
