- Klay says it doesn’t matter where your feet are if you get one thing right about your shoulders
Klay Thompson is regarded as one of the best shooters to ever play the game of basketball. Evidently, the four-time NBA champion has honed his shooting to an elite level.
So, if Thompson gives a tip about shooting the ball, most tend to listen. Klay Thompson recently shared an underrated tip to become a great shooter on a recent episode of ‘Podcast P’ with Paul George.
“It doesn’t matter where your feet are, even your hips, but if your shoulders are square to the basket, it has a good chance of going in,” Thompson said.
Klay then talked about how there’s no dip when he shoots the ball, “I don’t know how that started. I just practiced it. Catch high, keep it high. That’s all. … ‘Cus when you’re younger, you naturally want to dip, but when you get the strength, you can keep it high, especially in the mid-range.”
Thompson believes keeping your shoulders square to the basket and making sure you keep your release high will help you in becoming a great shooter.
It’s no wonder Thompson has been a crucial part of the Golden State Warriors dynasty. He’s a student of the game, and that’s probably one of the biggest reasons why re-signing Klay Thompson is a high priority for new Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr.
Stephen Curry Wants Kids To Learn From Klay Thompson’s Shooting Form
Stephen Curry is regarded as the greatest shooter of all time. But even Steph believes that if a young kid wants to learn about shooting the basketball, they should study his teammate Klay’s shooting form.
“I’d say his is more repeatable for the average person,” Curry said. “What I mean by that is it’s more kind of uniform from the ground up. You get your balance from the feet and then your power from the base, and you work your way up from there.
“So, he has like the most stacked kind of form. Like everything’s in line, all of his angles are right. And like if I was gonna take somebody who’s never shot a ball before and put a ball in your hand, I would put you in Klay Thompson’s positions.”
Curry also believes that Thompson has the prettiest jumper in NBA history. Now, that’s some huge praise for the 33-year-old.
Thompson averaged 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game in the 2022-23 season and will hope to help the Warriors win another NBA title in the upcoming season.
