  • Joel Embiid is aiming to have his best season ever
  • ESPN insider confirms Embiid is working to lose weight and get in the best shape of his life
  • Embiid is going to “give everything he has” to the 76ers this year

The Philadelphia 76ers had a pretty solid run last the regular season. With a 54-28 record, they finished 3rd in the East, just behind the Bucks and Celtics. But now, after James Harden’s trade request this summer, the Sixers are in real danger of losing Harden for practically nothing.

Where that leaves Joel Embiid is anyone’s guess, but there is a world where he’s forced to carry a mediocre Philly team all by himself. While not an ideal situation, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne recently confirmed that Embiid is working harder than ever to make amends for his team’s shortcomings.

“He wants to come back in the best shape of his life,” Shelburne said on Embiid. “When you talk about players losing weight and all that, that is a goal that he has set… His mentality is, he’s going to give everything that he has to the Sixers this year and that includes putting his arm around James Harden, that includes trying to lift Tyrese Maxey up. That includes inviting all those guys to his wedding. He’s in very close communication with Daryl Morey and the front office, talking about their plans for the future…”

As the reigning NBA MVP, it falls on Embiid to see success for this Sixers team. Last season, with averages of 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, he did everything he could to carry Philly to a title.

Sadly, it wasn’t enough to prevent a major collapse, and they have yet to prove much of anything in the postseason.

Are The 76ers Doomed To Fail Next Season

With all due respect to Embiid and new coach Nick Nurse, the 76ers have shown that they struggle to stay together when the pressure is highest. And after Harden cut ties with the franchise last month, bad vibes will linger throughout the organization until some kind of resolution is reached.

Either way, the picture is grim for the Sixers, and unless they can find a suitable deal for Harden soon, they may be facing another wasted season with Embiid.

Joel, who turned 30 in March, already struggles to stay healthy, and it remains to be seen how his body will age over time. For now, at least, he’s going to fight with everything he has to give his team a chance.
