Klay Thompson Says He Would Go Through All Injuries Again Because He Is Still Contending For A Fifth Title With The Warriors

Klay Thompson wouldn't change anything from his recent career, including his career-threatening injuries because he's still contending.

• Klay Thompson would not change anything he’s been through, including his injuries

• Thompson said he’s grateful he’s still contending for titles with the Golden State Warriors

• Thompson lost two-and-a-half seasons of on-court action due to a torn ACL and a torn Achilles in back-to-back years

Klay Thompson saw his career suffer a brutal setback in the 2019 NBA Finals when he tore his ACL against the Toronto Raptors. After missing a full season and planning to return in the 2020-21 season, Thompson suffered a torn Achilles and was sidelined for yet another year.

He returned to the court for the 2021-22 season, as the Warriors ended the year as champions. Thompson reflected on his career-shortening injuries and said he’d not change a thing from his career because he’s privileged to still be competing for championships.

“I’m lucky to still be going after five. I have no complaints, I’d do it all over again, injuries and all. I’m still together with the guys I came in with, Steph and Dray. Andre and Steve, it’s special.”

Thompson averaged 19.0 points, 3.9 rebounds. and 2.3 assists per game in the playoff for the 2022 championship run, shrugging off a long time away from the court to bring about instant impact.

Unfortunately, the Warriors couldn’t compete on the court in the 2023 playoffs, with Thompson averaging 16.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game on 34.3% shooting from the field in their second-round loss to the Lakers.

Klay Thompson Isn’t The Same Two-Way Star He Used To Be

We can’t say that Thompson wasn’t affected by his injuries, as his on-court play isn’t the same as pre-injury. That was natural, and Thompson has still defied expectations by performing at the level he is right now.

He averaged 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists last regular season and carried the load along with his teammates to keep the Warriors in the playoff fight.

He isn’t the same defensive presence he used to be, something the Warriors need to address. Playing Thompson alongside guys like Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga can soak up a lot of the perimeter defensive pressure the team has faced. Hopefully, his shot stays as automatic as it always has been next season.
