- Russell Westbrook has re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers for next season
- Gilbert Arenas says Tyronn Lue called him the leader of the team
- Tyronn Lue also said that the Clippers haven’t had a leader before him
The Los Angeles Clippers are in a precarious position. After four years of having a team built around Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, they are yet to win an NBA championship.
They added Russell Westbrook halfway through last season, and now it seems he might become a key piece for the team. According to Gilbert Arenas, the team’s Head Coach Tyronn Lue has referred to Westbrook as their leader.
“I talked to Tyronn Lue, and I said, ‘Man, why did my man’s get no money?’ Talking about Westbrook. I said, ‘Let that man get a lil money, man,'” Arenas said.
“He said, ‘We gave him everything he had. He didn’t wanna go nowhere. And we are glad he didn’t. Because we’ve never had a leader and he is our leader.’
“Think about the perception around Westbrook, and Tyronn Lue said we finally have a leader on our team to push us forward.”

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are the two superstars of the Los Angeles Clippers, and they are the best players on the team. However, Leonard isn’t very vocal and Paul George has never been the emotional leader on any of his teams either. So it’s not surprising that 34-year-old Westbrook is making the role his own.
Russell Westbrook Seems To Have Found A Home With The Los Angeles Clippers
Russell Westbrook’s time with the Los Angeles Lakers can only be described as a disaster, he became the scapegoat for a poorly constructed roster. But since joining the Clippers, he has impressed, averaging 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.4 blocks in their playoff series against the Phoenix Suns. He even sent the fans a wholesome message after re-signing.
The former MVP has been in decline for the last couple of seasons, but if the Clippers can unlock him and the team stays healthy, they could very well be on their way to winning a championship next season. And what could be better for NBA fans than watching Russell Westbrook finally get a championship?
