Luka Doncic kept it real about the Dallas Mavericks‘ offseason moves this summer.
Speaking to Sportklub, the 24-year-old, the Mavericks’ superstar was asked about the team’s summer signings during his practice ahead of the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup.
“I’m with the national team now, so I don’t think about that, but Dallas is taking good steps. We can still sign someone, or maybe not.”
For the most part, Doncic kept his answers focused on the preparation for the marquee tournament.
“I enjoy being on the national team. The boys and I have a good time there; you understand each other. I’m enjoying it. It’s really nice to play for the national team,” he stated.”
“It’s been a long summer for me, but I’m very happy to be back,” Doncic said during Saturday’s press conference held by the Slovenian Basketball Federation. Lots of games, lots of training. I look forward to it. I haven’t played since April 10th. I can not wait.”
Earlier, the Mavs re-signed Kyrie Irving, and also added Dereck Lively II and Grant Williams to their ranks. They later acquired Seth Curry and this shows they have made some good moves this offseason so far.
Luka was phenomenal for the Mavs this season, averaging 32.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists. He will hopefully take the same streak to Slovenia in the World Cup.
Luka Doncic Looks In Good Shape This Summer
Previously, reports of the Mavericks wanting Luka Doncic to lose weight surfaced, and he has impressively put in the work, and has looked fitter than before.
Tim Cato of The Athletic revealed that Dallas had spoken to him about lowering the preferred weight at which he plays for better results throughout 82 games.
“The Mavericks’ key figures have talked to Dončić about decreasing his preferred playing weight this summer.” With a grueling season, Doncic and Kyrie Irving will be required to take care of their bodies as the entire roster construction this offseason has revolved around the two guards. For now, the focus is on Doncic, who has been training hard for the FIBA World Cup.
Only time will tell how he fares at FIBA.
