10x All-Star James Harden has had a pretty bizarre NBA career. After being a sixth man for the Thunder, Harden graduated as the main man in Houston, to which he enjoyed great prosperity. But after forcing his way out of Houston, he’s bounced around to several different teams, with each stop resulting in failure.
Even now, Harden is looking to jump ship once again, and it’s starting to take a real toll on his reputation. But according to Harden himself, his status as an NBA journeyman holds little importance to him. In fact, he doesn’t really care at all what the people are saying about him.
“I just work hard, play basketball and let everybody else talk,” said Harden via HoopsHype. “So I don’t consider myself a good guy. I don’t consider myself a bad guy. I just do my job and stay out of the way and that’s kind of been my mindset my entire career.”
The NBA is a business, after all, so nobody can blame James for looking out for himself and putting his own interests above the organization. But whether people blame Harden or not, the Beard himself isn’t listening to any of the judgments anyway. His eyes are on a move to the Clippers, no matter the cost.
James Harden’s Future Is Uncertain
Despite formally submitting a trade request to Sixers GM Daryl Morey, it’s very possible that the Harden sweepstakes are dragged out for weeks or even months. There’s also no guarantee that Harden ends up in LA, as Morey has made it clear that he’s going to prioritize what’s best for his team.
“If we don’t get either a very good player or something we can turn into a very good player, then we’re just not going to do it,” Morey said, via the Philly Voice. “If James were to turn his mind around, we would all be thrilled. You’ve heard Joel’s comments about that. But at this moment, he prefers to be traded, and we are attempting to honor that.”
We will see soon enough how it all plays out for Harden, but there’s no denying that his string of trade requests over the past few years have really damaged his legacy, and it will take a lot of work to make up the ground he’s lost.
