  • Dwyane Wade wants to bring Allen Iverson back to the forefront
  • Wade appreciates what Iverson brought to NBA culture
  • Allen Iverson doesn’t get the flowers he deserves

For many fans that grew up watching basketball in the early 2000s, Allen Iverson is a shooting guard that was absolutely an iconic player. He inspired a whole generation of guards, and some of his influence is visible in the game today.

In fact, Allen Iverson’s cultural significance is a large reason that Dwyane Wade selected Iverson to present him at the Hall of Fame. When speaking to Marc Spears of Andscape, Wade revealed that he wanted to bring Iverson back to “the forefront”, and tell him “how important he was”.

“It was important to me that I touched the culture when I did this,” Wade said. “And Allen Iverson is somebody who gets forgotten for what he means to this game and what he means to a community and to a culture. And so, I want to bring that back to the front in the forefront and give him his flowers like he deserved and just tell him how important he was, man, to not only me but to all the little boys that looked like me and look like him.”

It is true that a lot of younger fans don’t know just how important Allen Iverson was to the NBA. Even if he didn’t win the title, he was a huge part of NBA culture. The excitement and flash Iverson brought to the game captivated many fans, and he was a truly unique player.

Allen Iverson Had A Lot Of Pressure On Him Due To His MVP Status

There is no doubt that there was a lot of pressure on Allen Iverson throughout his career, but that was especially true after he won the 2000-01 MVP award. In fact, Iverson once opened up on the tremendous pressure he faced, noting that he’s “human” like the rest of us.

“I can’t win ’em all. I’m human. I’m just like y’all, man, I’m just like you. I’m just like you. You might be a little better than me in your eyes or the people that love you, in their eyes, you might be a little better than me. But you are human, you are just like me, right? You just like me, you ain’t no different. You are just like me. You bleed just like I bleed, you cry just like I cry, and you hurt just like I hurt. I ain’t no different than you. I ain’t no different. But I’m Allen Iverson, I’m a basketball player, you know, I get some money to play basketball.”

It is clear that Allen Iverson had a lot on his shoulders, and even in spite of that, he managed to perform at a high level consistently. He is a true legend of the game, and many respect him because of what he did on the court and off the court.
