  • An NBA executive believes the Jaylen Brown contract is a good deal.
  • The executive claimed that the team had to pay Brown $304 million.
  • It was also noted that people criticizing the team would be criticizing them if they let Brown go in free agency as well.

Forward Jaylen Brown is an All-NBA level talent, and there’s no doubt that he’s one of the best two-way players in the league. There’s no doubt that he’s been a large part of his team’s success the last few seasons, and the Boston Celtics have clearly recognized that.

We recently saw Jaylen Brown sign a five-year deal worth $304 million to remain with the Boston Celtics. However, many have criticized the Celtics for giving Brown that kind of money, as they don’t believe he is worth it. With that being said, some believe that it is a good deal for the Boston Celtics, and an NBA executive recently explained why that is the case.

“It is a good deal because he is a star player and that is what they had to pay him,” one Eastern Conference executive said per Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports. “I love the people who say they should not have given him that contract. Like, OK, then what should they have done? Traded him? Let him go to free agency? The same people who are beating them up for signing him would be beating them up if they did not sign him. It’s crazy.”

There is no doubt that this line of reasoning makes sense. The Boston Celtics were in a situation where a trade wouldn’t have let them get the return to remain competitive with Jayson Tatum. Losing him in free agency for nothing would have been the worst option possible. Clearly, re-signing Jaylen Brown and hoping for internal development was the best possible move.

This past season with the Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown averaged 26.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 3.5 APG. He is clearly a good player, and we’ll see how he does over the duration of his next deal.

The Boston Celtics Are One Of The Best Teams In The League Right Now

As of right now, it is fair to say that the Boston Celtics are one of the best teams in the league. They added an elite big man in Kristaps Porzingis, and now have the star power to compete with any team in the Eastern Conference.

Jaylen Brown’s performance will be a key part of whether the Boston Celtics are able to win a title in the upcoming season. Hopefully, Brown rises up to the challenge, and he can definitely be a difference-maker for the team.
