It isn’t often that someone gets to cross paths with LeBron James and when they do, they can’t contain their excitement. That wasn’t the case for a certain James Michael Angelo, though, when he happened to sit next to LeBron on the New York City subway in 2017.
James and his Cleveland Cavaliers teammates had chosen to return to their hotel after a shootaround via the subway on the day in question. LeBron decided to record himself and his teammates on their short journey, but when he pointed the camera at Angelo, he pushed the phone away.
“Can you not?”

LeBron seemed to find it hilarious and proceeded to point the camera at Dwyane Wade, who was sitting in front of him. Angelo, meanwhile, got up and left his seat to presumably avoid ending up on the video again.
James Michael Angelo Revealed Why He Reacted In That Manner
His reaction and this video went viral back in the day, as you might imagine. Many wondered why Angelo reacted in the manner that he did and the explanation is rather simple. He spoke to For The Win at some point later on and revealed he had no idea that was LeBron.
“I noticed a bunch of tall guys getting in the train, but I was listening to U2 and I didn’t want to be filmed.”
Angelo thought it was a college basketball team and he wasn’t pleased by LeBron’s behavior.
“To be honest with you, they got on and they completely squished me and he was really unaware of his space.”
He stated that LeBron’s elbow nearly hit him multiple times and he told him to watch it, but to no avail, which explains why he seemed quite upset in that clip. Angelo, who is a real estate agent and comedian, also stated he is more of a tennis fan which is why he didn’t recognize James.
He had also taken to Facebook a few days later to give his side of the story.
“So this morning I was on the train and out of nowhere a crowd of ENORMOUS basketball players got on the train and pretty much crushed me. The guy next to me kept nearly elbowing me in the face, I nicely asked him to watch my head. He wasn’t very apologetic. Then he decided to put me in his movie, and I hadn’t had my coffee yet. Thanks LeBron James.”
This was just a wild story all around but LeBron didn’t seem to think too much of it. He had 23 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists, and 3 blocks in the game against the New York Knicks after this, as he led the Cavaliers to a 104-101 win.
