Jimmy Butler fell just short in his quest to win a championship with the Miami Heat when they lost in the 2023 NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets. It was still quite a playoff run from Butler, and there were so many memorable moments in it.

One of them was when he and Grant Williams got into a heated altercation toward the end of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Williams recently gave his side of the story on what led to that confrontation during an appearance on the Run Your Race podcast.

“Jimmy says, ‘Hell naw he ain’t here,’ so I made a three, and I said ‘Hell no, mother******, I’m here!’ … The next play, Jimmy … boom boom, stop, pivot, and-one, and he says ‘I’m here too, mother******!’” Williams said.

It seemed like a plausible explanation of the events that transpired that night, but Butler’s agent, Bernard Lee, called out Williams for lying.

“This didn’t happen haha”

This would be a rather odd thing for Williams to lie about, but at the same time, you’d think Lee has no reason to lie here either. It isn’t like this incident makes you see Butler in some different light and think any less of him. Maybe Jimmy himself can shed some light on what exactly happened that night at some point.

Jimmy Butler Destroyed The Celtics After This Incident

After Williams made the three-point shot that he was talking about in that podcast, the Boston Celtics were up 96-87 with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. It looked like they’d be heading to Miami with the series tied at 1-1, but Butler was fueled by the incident.

He proceeded to lead the Heat on a 24-9 run to close out the game as they won 111-105 to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Williams was the butt of all jokes after the game, and Shaquille O’Neal later warned the Celtics players against talking any more trash to Butler.
