Former NBA star JJ Redick is one of the prime contenders to succeed Jeff Van Gundy as ESPN’s NBA Game broadcast team.
Per Front Office Sports, the player-turned-analyst was one of the names alongside Doris Burke and Richard Jefferson. The list of players also includes former NBA head coach Doc Rivers.
The 39-year-old was previously pegged as one of the favorites to land the role. Earlier, Van Gundy was one of the many big names let go by ESPN in a round of cost-cutting layoffs last month.
Redick has been a prominent face alongside Stephen A. Smith and is known for his sharp takes. He’s worked game and studio NBA analysis for the sports network while also co-starring on shows such as Smith’s ‘First Take.’

“I’m a big fan of JJ and how he approaches hoops media and I enjoy his announcing as well. I will say it’s pretty obvious and sucks that JVG got sacked cuz he’s outspoken and unfiltered in his opinions on aspects of the league and I don’t like that. I enjoyed his brutal honesty,” a fan said.

In our opinion, Redick is surely one of the better fits and can do more than just hold his own. His analysis is sharp, and he’s a well-known face in the NBA circuit.
Only time will tell who JVG’s worthy successor will be.
