Jalen Rose revealed why Kobe Bryant instantly knew that Dwight Howard wasn’t going to be great for the Los Angeles Lakers.
The former Indiana Pacers legend said he was with the Black Mamba when the news of the deal was announced in 2012.
“The day he heard Dwight Howard was going to get traded to them [Howard called Bryant],” Rose said. “So Kobe takes the call and I might’ve heard some of the conversation, and I might’ve heard Dwight asking him about LA and some of the off-the-court things, whatever. And Kobe got off the phone and said, ‘This s**t ain’t going to work.'”
“That’s exactly what he said,” Rose continued. “This is before he even laced up with [Howard] one time. He said, ‘His head ain’t right.’ He said, ‘M*****, I’m here to help you get championships. You’re asking me about producers?'”
Howard was flipped to LA from the Orlando Magic and the big man was roped in to bolster the defense. In that 2012-13 season, the Lakers had Kobe, Howard, Pau Gasol, and Steve Nash. It was unfortunate that the Mamba tore in Achilles tendon in April while Nash endured a stretch of back injuries.
As a result, the Lakers finished with a 45-37 record and seventh in the West. They were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the playoffs. And as for Howard, he had three stints with LA, and in his overall 205 games for the side, he averaged 10.7 points and 8.8 rebounds.

From his viewpoint, Dwight Howard stressed that the aforementioned had never taken place, and called out Jalen Rose for it.
