For the past 20 years, LeBron James has dominated the NBA as one of its best and most successful players. But on the eve of the 2023 Draft, a new name is on the verge of an NBA takeover. Coming out of France, projected no. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama will officially join the NBA brotherhood tomorrow and it will just be the start of a long and prosperous career.
In a recent sit-down with JJ Redick on ‘The Old Man & The Three,’ Victor spoke about a wide range of topics from life to basketball, and to the story of his NBA journey. At one point, he also reflected on playing against LeBron James one day and admitted that it’ll be a weird feeling.
“I know it’s gonna feel really special when I play against the top guys… Especially LeBron,” said Wemby. “When I play against LeBron, it’s gonna feel so weird.”

Technically, we don’t know that LeBron will return next season. After his comments on retirement, it seems he is leaving his entire NBA future up for grabs. If he does come back for another run (which is what most are expecting), we will get a few matchups between him and Victor next season.
Sadly, Wembanyama won’t be playing against the best version of LeBron, but it would still make for an incredible moment with two generational players facing off for the first time.
LeBron’s Key Advice To Wembanyama
While it’s impossible to say for sure how good Victor Wembanyama will be in the NBA, it’s no secret that he has impressed many of the top experts in the field, and he’s on a trajectory that could be historic.
Best of all, he’s humble enough to respect the legends and take advice from those who came before him.
“The most important thing is to stay true to the game and the main point of anything, give to the game,” James told Mike Wilbon on his advice to Victor. “Work your butt off. Try to be better than you were yesterday every single day. Commit to the game. I believe, we always talk about the game gods. And if you disrespect the game gods, then karma is a mug.”
After nearly two decades as the NBA’s best player, is it finally time for LeBron to pass the torch? It’s still too early to tell, but Wembanyama looks like the real deal, and even LeBron seems impressed with his game.
