In a video from 2018 that’s resurfaced on social media, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was seen attempting a bicycle kick while playing with his fans back home in Africa, much to the delight of the fans.

It didn’t go exactly as planned, as Embiid wearing a Pogba jersey, was honing his skills. But he sure had fun while at it. Here’s a look below:

Soccer is more than just a hobby for Sixers’ big man, be it whether he was playing with kids back home in Cameroon or juggling a ball around on the basketball floor. He has been previously spotted playing soccer with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Clint Capela.

VAR has to be the worst thing ever… just let the referees make decisions and live with the results

The big man has also been vocal about sharing his opinion on the sport. Earlier, he took a shot at the VAR system in the English Premier League. “VAR has to be the worst thing ever… just let the referees make decisions and live with the results,” he said after a drawn contest between Manchester City and Liverpool in 2022.

Joel Embiid Supports Arsenal

In a 2018 Sports Illustrated feature, the MVP said he was an avid Arsenal fan and he had his reasons. “I’ve always been big on French people. A lot of people might not agree … They’ve always had a lot of French players.”

On his season front, Embiid led the Sixers to the playoffs but lost out to the Boston Celtics in the second round. His dip in form saw him garner some flak, and former head coach Doc Rivers explained the why behind it.

“Number one, he has to be healthy,” Rivers said about Embiid on the Bill Simmons podcast, via Heavy. “If you look at his numbers in the last three years in the playoffs, compared to his regular season numbers, they’re not very good… The first year I had him, he hurts his knee. The next year, he hits his face and tears ligaments in his hand, and then this year he has a knee injury and he was never the same once he came back this year. So health is No. 1.”

More so than MVP, Embiid will look to win a title with Philadelphia in the upcoming season. Only time will tell if he indeed can pull them to a win.
