After losing in the Eastern Conference Finals this year, the Boston Celtics fell short of expectations and they are facing massive questions about the future. All throughout the season, the Celtics were mired in inconsistency that finally caught up with them against the Miami Heat in May.

Even still, the Celtics find themselves in a good spot entering the 2023 off-season. As one anonymous NBA coach told insider Steve Bulpett, Boston still has one of the best rosters in the league when you consider guys like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Derrick White, Al Horford, and Malcolm Brogdon among others.

“As soon as a team gets knocked out of the playoffs — or doesn’t even make the playoffs — you start hearing about all the changes they need to make,” the coach told Heavy Sports. “Right now, there’s a whole lot of GMs and people with my job that would LOVE to see Boston make a bunch of changes. I mean, are there fans up there actually saying they should break up Brown and Tatum? Are you s***ting me? Sure, you always hope you can tweak things here or there to try to get better, but right now just about every team in the league would trade its roster for Boston’s straight up.”

The Cs started off this season with a bang and broke the NBA record books with their hot shooting for the first few months. Eventually, the Celtics cooled off, and by the time they entered the playoffs, there were already questions about their focus as a team.

Obviously, the goal for this Celtics group is to finally bring home the title, but it will not be easy for GM Brad Stevens to make the team significantly better.

Bradley Beal Is A Top Trade Target For The Celtics

If Boston aims to make a big splash this July, going after Wizards sharpshooter Bradley Beal could be the best way to do it. While he is somewhat limited defensively, his perimeter shooting would make an ideal fit for Joe Mazzulla’s three-point-heavy offense.

“Bradley Beal and Jayson Tatum have been the loudest secret ever as far as wanting to play with each other,” said Kendrick Perkins. “They have been tied together like cooked spaghetti. When I think about the situation, Bradley Beal is 29 years old and doesn’t have the time to tell the Wizards, give me a couple of years…”

With Tatum and Brown, the Celtics have the basic building blocks to being a contender. Now all that’s left for the to-do if surround those guys with the proper role players and a coach who can keep the team steady when the pressure is at its highest.
