NBA Fan Asked If Stephen Curry Would Break Ray Allen’s Three-Point Record 12 Years Ago And The Responses Have Gone Viral

An NBA fan shared a debate from 2012 about whether Stephen Curry would break Ray Allen's all-time record for made three-pointers, and some of the answers look too bad in hindsight.

Predicting anything in sports is quite tough, and nothing more so than evaluating players. A perfect example of that is how Nikola Jokic is on his way to a championship after winning two MVPs and he was drafted with the 41st pick.

Stephen Curry is another who has wildly outperformed expectations. His early years in the league were marred by injury, and even though his shooting talent was evident, not many believed in him. An NBA fan recently shared an old thread of a debate about whether he would break Ray Allen’s record from 12 years ago and it is hilarious.

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors changed the game during the 2010s, and the whole league started shooting more three-pointers. But there was a fan at the time who didn’t see it coming, saying that Curry wouldn’t even make 2,000 threes. For reference, he is currently at 3,390 and could retire with over 4,000.

The top 3 all-time in this category now also include James Harden. But back in 2011, it was hard to imagine players shooting so much from range. But there was a fan that thought Steph could prove to be the closest.

NBA fans can be a bit limited in terms of their opinions, and perhaps one of them never saw the shift to positionless basketball coming. Their reasoning for Curry not getting closer to Allen’s record was based on his position as a point guard, although Steph ended up revolutionizing and changing that as well.

The one thing that would always keep Curry in this conversation was that even in his early days, he was still shooting good percentages. And one fan saw that, giving Curry a chance to do what he eventually did.

Stephen Curry Unequivocally Became The Greatest Shooter Of All Time

Not only did Stephen Curry break Ray Allen’s record, but he also shattered it in nearly 500 fewer games. Steph is now on a level by himself having worked incredibly hard to get there, no one else has reached 3,000 made three-pointers. And he might even get to 4,000. What makes it even more incredible is that Curry has shot 42.8% from long range for his career, which is insane considering that he has attempted 7,929 three-pointers.

Any fans that were doubting Stephen Curry were silenced in style by him. His success has come with success for the Warriors as well, they have won four championships having pioneered a new and beautiful style of basketball. Looking at this, one can only wonder who the next player will be that challenges Curry’s record, although plenty will argue today that no one will be able to touch it.
