Michael Jordan is notorious for his trash-talking. Jordan loved talking trash and enjoyed taking the fire to his opponents. But there have been players who decided to trash-talk Jordan, and very few have walked away better for it. Darrick Martin learned the hard way why you shouldn’t go after Michael Jordan.

A former teammate of Darrick Martin spoke about playing Michael Jordan. Martin had spent time with MJ during the Summer while they were filming Space Jam.

“We’re winning the game, we’re by 8 points. One of my teammates, Darrick Martin had been in LA with Mike when he was filming Space Jam. It was the summer after he had filmed Space Jam. We’re up by 8. Mike is 4-16 from the field. He’s having a really hard night. So Darrick Decides, because there’s about 10 minutes to go in the game, and we’re winning”.

“He decides to say to Michael Jordan, who’s having an off night, ‘Hey Mike! Sh*t’s not falling tonight, Mike! You’re having an off night, Mike.’ Really? 24 points in the last 10 minutes. His last jump shot, this is no lie, he catches the ball in the post, he does the typical Jordan fade away. He’s fading towards our bench, he knocks down the shot, they go up by 6. He turns to the bench and says ‘shut up you little b*tch’!”

Michael Jordan was fiercely competitive and wouldn’t take trash talk from anyone lightly. Perhaps he felt slighted by Martin, someone whom he played with during his time filming Space Jam, and wanted to show him that he will not tolerate disrespect and will punish those who question him.

Michael Jordan: The King Of Trash Talk

There have been several instances of Michael Jordan talking trash to opposing players. But he had a very simple philosophy when it came to talking trash – do it when the score is even, not when you are in the lead. Maybe he was trying to teach Martin that lesson.

Darrick Martin is far from the only player who was obliterated by Jordan for talking trash. There have just been too many who have made the mistake of talking trash to His Airness and have suffered the consequences.
