Paul George isn’t keen on the James Harden-Houston Rockets reunion, and he has his reasons.
The LA Clippers guard spoke at length about the ramifications of the Rockets pursuing Harden, mainly about how it would impact the game of some of the younger guns on the side.
“Personally, I wouldn’t pursue it, ” George said on the latest episode of Podcast P. “There’s obviously been some links of James [Harden] wanting to come back to the team,” George said. “I feel like at this point you’re the king of Houston. You gotta go through being double-teamed, being triple-teamed, and being the target every time.”
“And you bring someone like James who’s such a ball-dominant player, that’s gonna hinder your growth a little bit. Regardless of how it can elevate you on another level of him teaching you, and you learning off of him, I feel like, for you, you have already been through the fire, so let you continue to learn, you know what I mean?”
George’s comments come amid heavy speculations that Harden was certain to reunite with the Rockets this summer, with the team looking to make a major revamp and get back to being title contenders again.
“The belief among NBA executives is that James Harden will rejoin the Houston Rockets this summer,” wrote The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey. The buzz about Harden’s potential return to the Rockets did the rounds in December last year and while Harden denied it back then, it looks like the move just might happen.
Rockets’ Jalen Green Believes James Harden’s Arrival In Houston Could Work Both Ways
Speaking to George on his podcast when he weighed in on Harden’s potential Houston return, the team’s rising star Jalen Green agreed that the 76ers star could probably have two effects on the team and his game.
“I think it can play both ways. It can help and hurt at the same time. I haven’t really talked to him too much about the rumors, I’m with you on that.”
Green has been solid for the Rockets, averaging 22.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists this season. While he will certainly benefit from Harden’s experience, there will be a few changes that would have to be made, and the cohesion could be a question as the season progresses. Unless Houston decides to deal Green.
