The Philadelphia 76ers have crashed out of the NBA playoffs in the second round for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Despite all the changes over the years, the 76ers just haven’t been able to get over the hump.
Doc Rivers has been the 76ers’ coach for the last three seasons and is aware that his job may be gone after the recent spree of elite head coaches being fired.
“Yeah. I think I got 2 years left… No one’s safe in our business. I get that.”
Reporter: “Are you planning to coach [the Sixers] next year?”

Rivers took over at the start of the 2020-21 season, being fired from the Los Angeles Clippers after blowing a 3-1 series lead in the second round. His first season in Philly ended with a shocking second-round exit at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks. In the 21-22 season, Philly lost to the Miami Heat in the second round, and this season, they’ve lost to rivals Boston.
Big changes are going to sweep the 76ers franchise in the summer as they try to complete building around this season’s MVP, Joel Embiid.
Game 7 Drubbing
The 76ers could’ve finished the series in Game 6 but went offensively ice-cold in the fourth quarter and saw Jayson Tatum come back from a 1-13 performance to a 16-point quarter to win the game for Boston. Game 7 was even worse for the 76ers, as they let the Celtics go on a 33-5 run in the middle of the game that ensured Boston would take this one home.
Jayson Tatum broke the record for most points in a Game 7 with a 51-point performance, as Joel Embiid disappeared and scored just 15 points on 27.8% efficiency. Even after this, Embiid found a way to blame roster construction ahead of a summer where James Harden is looking to end his stint with Philly and possibly rejoin the Houston Rockets.
