The Chicago Bulls dominated the 1990s, they were the team to watch in that era. Michael Jordan won six championships in eight seasons along with some truly amazing teammates, and they never needed to go to a Game 7 in the NBA Finals.

The Bulls dominated completely in that era, but there were still threats, especially when Michael Jordan retired for the first time in 1993. The New York Knicks had taken Chicago to 7 games in 1992, and they then beat them in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 1994. Scottie Pippen said that was the toughest series ever.

“I’d have to say that 1993-94 series against New York. We as a team had a lot of fun and fought together.”

After Michael Jordan retired for the first time, Scottie Pippen became the main man in Chicago. That was his first season as the leader of the team and he averaged more than 21 points per game during that series. It wasn’t enough, and some moments caused problems for the Bulls and Scottie, who eventually lost the series. It’s easy to see why he would choose that as the toughest series he ever played in.

The Chicago Bulls Played In Only Three Game 7s When Michael Jordan Was Playing

Apart from the series against the Knicks in 1994 which went to seven games, the Bulls played in only three other Game 7s in Scottie Pippen’s tenure with the team. There was one against the Detroit Pistons which they lost because of a migraine issue for Pippen in 1990. And then they won against the Knicks in 1992 and beat the Pacers in 1998 as well. The fact of the matter is that the team was simply winning all of their series in six games or less, which speaks to how dominant and amazing they were.

Michael Jordan’s time away from the Bulls and their struggles at that time is also the perfect example of his greatness. The same team couldn’t get it done without his presence and immediately started winning championships when he returned to the fold. As much as people appreciate Pippen’s contributions, the levels of greatness are different when your long-time teammate’s toughest series was one of the only ones that he had to play without you.
