Guard James Harden is a legend for the Houston Rockets franchise, and there’s no doubt that he had his best years with the team. Harden forged his legacy as an elite scorer and playmaker there, and there’s no doubt that he truly loved playing for the Rockets.

As of late, there have been multiple reports that have suggested the Houston Rockets could target James Harden during free agency this summer. A recent report from Rockets insider Ari Alexander of KPRC revealed that many in the league are treating Harden’s return to the Rockets as “an inevitability.” However, Alexander did also note that Harden could use the Rockets’ interest as a way to get a better contract from the Philadelphia 76ers.

“The Rockets could look totally different in 2023-24 if you believe the persistent rumors surrounding James Harden’s return. What I’ve heard in league circles is similar to what many Rockets fans are reading – that James Harden’s return is being treated as an inevitability. Harden has one year remaining on his deal with the Philadelphia 76ers but is expected to opt-out and either seek a new deal or sign with the Rockets.”

“Harden is very comfortable in Houston, with a home, restaurant, and all of his favorite haunts in the city. He’s said to have a good relationship with Jalen Green (they’re close through both typical basketball events and as faces of Adidas Basketball, where Green regularly wears Harden’s signature shoes). Of course, he could also be using all of his Houston interest as leverage for a better deal with the 76ers, where he’s currently competing for a championship.”

It will definitely be interesting to see what James Harden ends up doing this summer. It is clear that he will be a coveted player when free agency happens, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

In the playoffs, James Harden has averaged 20.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG, and 8.0 APG for the 76ers while shooting 38.3% from 3PT range. Though he clearly isn’t the same player he was with the Rockets, it is clear that he is still an effective playmaker and shooter.

The Houston Rockets Could Also Acquire Jaylen Brown

Besides James Harden, the Houston Rockets have also been linked with other stars, with one of the more prominent names being Jaylen Brown due to his relationship with new head coach Ime Udoka. It is clear that the team is ready to enter win-now mode, and it’ll be interesting to see if they land any of their targets.

The Houston Rockets have the ability to become a very good squad next season, and they have good young players that they could use as traded chips. Hopefully, we see them thrive as a squad next year, and there is even a chance they will be contenders if they land the players they want.
