After sending Twitter into a tizzy with his latest take, Stephen A. Smith now apologized to LeBron James after stating he would take the Los Angeles Lakers superstar off his Mount Rushmore.

“If Steph Curry beats LeBron in this series and, dare I say, wins his fifth NBA championship, we might have to remove LeBron James off of Mount Rushmore and put Steph Curry on it. That’s right, I said it!” Smith boldly said on First Take.

Now, he has doubled down with a simple apology. In the recent episode of NBA Countdown ahead of Game 2 between the Warriors and Lakers, Smith said, “If Steph Curry wins a fifth title and we start talking about some of the greatest ever … I’m sorry, it’s a discussion with him and who needs to be removed from the Mount Rushmore even if that conversation, and just a conversation, involves LeBron when you look at resumé.”

The world isn’t alien to Smith’s hot takes, although this one took the cake when he made the claim.

He’s still pretty firm on his stance, but what it does is just further intensify the James vs. Curry clash that will now shift to LA after the Warriors responded with a scintillating Game 2 win.

Brian Windhorst Slams Stephen A. Smith For His Latest Claim

Smith’s comments received quite the flak and one of them was from ESPN and NBA analyst and NBA insider Brian Windhorst.

“Mr. Smith, please come home,” Windhorst said on First Take. “You’ve been in California for too long. Too much sun, too much blue skies, too much 75 degrees, come back to the cold gray of the Northeast, the gritty streets. You’ve lost it a little bit. This is grade-A insanity.”

Debate aside, all the focus will now shift to Curry and James as they square off in Game 3 of the second round of the playoffs, with the winner booking a date in the WCF with either the Denver Nuggets or the Phoenix Suns. Curry has already stated he is raring to go for Game 3, and that makes the clash all the more interesting.
