The NBA has seen some sorts of rivalries in the past couple of seasons, with some teams engaging in fierce competition or players having extra motivation to play against certain rivals.
However, it’s odd to see two owners beefing, especially over things unrelated to the game. This is the case of Mat Ishbia and Dan Gilbert, who have had beef for a while now.
During a recent appearance on the Bill Simmons podcast, Ishbia confirmed that he has no love for Gilbert.
“So listen. I can talk for hours on it and I can talk for a minute; the minute’s probably easier. He doesn’t like me and I don’t like him, that’s how it is. Business — his company used to be number one in mortgage, UWM, my business, is number one in mortgage. I don’t like the way they do business in a lot of things, he probably doesn’t like the way we do things. We’re in the same town, we compete, we’re winning. That’s what it is right now.
“The reality is, if you asked me what I thought about that. I knew, without a question, that would probably be how he handled it. The best part is, now you get to see who I see. Very simple. You see who I see and what I know about that man.”

This is a very interesting way to start some beef, and now it has transcended to the NBA. The Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers don’t clash that often during the regular season, so it’ll be hard to see them developing some type of beef like their owners unless they constantly clash in the NBA Finals.
Suns Could Follow Cavaliers To Cancun If They Don’t React Against Nuggets
But this year, both teams could be out of the competition earlier than expected. First, the Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated in five games by the New York Knicks, while the Suns advanced to the second round and now are struggling to get past Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.
If they don’t make the adjustments for the next game, the Nuggets will capitalize every chance they get, and going down 0-3 against the No. 1 seed in the West will be lethal for the Suns. Ishbia wants to win it all as soon as possible and they won’t miss any chance to do so.
