The Memphis Grizzlies-Dillon Brooks breakup continues to garner ample attention, with more details trickling down about the duo’s murky divorce.
The franchise announced Tuesday that they would not re-sign Brooks, a free agent this summer, under any circumstances. The move came on the back of the team’s 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
According to Memphis beat reporter Damichael Cole, Brooks sought a larger role in the team. “I was just there to three-and-D, shoot, and play defense. I got way more to my game than that,” he had said.
His limited offensive role was laid bare in the playoffs and the Lakers had their game plan for Brooks worked out, as they dared him to shoot. Now, the F/G will look for a new home in the summer.

Dillon Brooks Reportedly Wanted $25 Million Per Year Before The Grizzlies Showed Him The Door
One of the details that emerged around Brooks’ exit with Memphis was his contract extensions. The guard reportedly wanted $25 million per year, and that was one of the reasons behind the negotiation talks breaking down.
Per ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, “Dillon Brooks wants $25 million/year and that is why the Grizzlies are parting ways with him.” As far as the numbers go, he averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. In the playoffs, he averaged 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists.
There’s no telling where Brooks will land in the summer, and while teams that have had worse runs in the seasons might be the ones who could rope in his services, there’s no concrete news until as such that happens.
For now, he has enough time to think about his damp squib exit from a promising and potentially-filled team.
