Big man Jarred Vanderbilt was one of the players the Los Angeles Lakers got at the trade deadline by moving Russell Westbrook. There is no doubt that he has been a valuable role player for the team, with Vanderbilt often getting praised for his defense and rebounding.

When speaking to Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times, an NBA scout suggested that Jarred Vanderbilt is among the best guard defenders at his position, and it is easy to see why he thinks that. Vanderbilt is a lengthy and athletic player who can effectively guard all five positions.

“I think you’ve got to mix it up a bit, you have to impact the ball,” he said. “The bigs have to be up and committed and also challenging shots. Vanderbilt can guard guards on the perimeter as good as any big in the league.”

There is no doubt that Jarred Vanderbilt’s multi-positional defense and athleticism will be key against the Golden State Warriors. Hopefully, we see him having a big impact on the game, and he will be crucial in stopping their offensive players. In fact, some people believe that he can be a “secret weapon” against Stephen Curry.

The Los Angeles Lakers Plan To Exercise Jarred Vanderbilt’s Team Option This Offseason

Jarred Vanderbilt is still a young player, and he could potentially be an elite defensive player for years to come. It is in the Los Angeles Lakers’ best interests to keep him long-term, and unsurprisingly, the team plans to pick up his $4.7 million team option for the 2023-24 season.

“Vanderbilt has a $4.7 million team option for next season, one the Lakers plan on exercising,” said Lakers insider Jovan Buha. “He’s hopeful he can put down roots in Los Angeles as part of what he deems a ‘high-caliber organization.’”

There is no doubt that having an elite role player on a cost-controlled contract is a boon for any team with championship aspirations. Jarred Vanderbilt has been a crucial player for the Los Angeles Lakers, and it makes sense for the team to try and keep him on a smaller deal rather than rejecting his team option and letting him become a free agent. Hopefully, we see Jarred Vanderbilt make an impact against the Warriors and we’ll see what happens in the future.
