LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh formed a Big 3 with the Miami Heat ahead of the 2010-2011 NBA season.
After easily reaching the 2011 NBA Finals, the Heat were shockingly defeated by Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks. It was one of the darkest times in James’ career, and his former teammate Dwyane Wade recently shared a story of how the King almost ended his career after losing the finals.
“We out there just looking at the pool, chilling, and Bron and [Savannah] came up,” Wade said. “No lie… LeBron came in and said, ‘What’s up?’ Looked down, and there was the pool down there. Looked down, he said, ‘How deep do you think that is?’ Around eight or nine feet. He said, ‘Let me see.’ Took his stuff off and jumped in the pool from the balcony, I promise you. I was like, ‘This dude is crazy.’ He didn’t need to think about that [the end of his career]. He just jumped in the water. I’m serious.”

When LeBron James joined the Miami Heat, he quickly became the villain of the NBA after being its poster boy for the first seven years of his career.
Considering that he still failed to win an NBA title in his first season with the Heat superteam, it must have put a lot of pressure on James. After all, why would he take such a risk? James is known for taking amazing care of his body, and it was certainly reckless of him to jump into the pool from a balcony.
Dwyane Wade Never Thought He Would Team Up With LeBron James On The Miami Heat
During the Heatles era, the duo of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade didn’t take long for fans to impress. Both superstars regularly performed craft dunks, layups, passes, and whatnot.
Considering James and Wade were friends even before becoming teammates, one would assume that the latter was always sure about the former joining his team. However, D-Wade once revealed he never thought James would become his teammate.
“I never thought we was going to play together. Like it never crossed my mind. Playing in the All-Star games and playing in the summer games and playing in the Olympics, that’s one thing, but playing the NBA season together, that’s 82, that’s way different. You know how hard that is to think about playing with another ball-dominated guy. It wasn’t as many shots as it is now, and the pace wasn’t the same as it is now, so it looked even harder to even think that.
“So it was nothing that was on my mind until free agency in 2010, when we started going through the process of free agency, there was nothing on my mind until then about even playing together. A lot of people think we came up with it, I wish we were this smart. Like, we go with this plan like we’re building it from 2004 to 2008, but we weren’t that smart.”
Wade ended his answer on a hilarious note that he and James were not smart enough to plan to team up years prior to the 2010 free agency.
Regardless of when they decided to become teammates, their partnership will always remain one of the most iconic in NBA history. During their four years together as teammates, James and Wade took the Heat to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances while winning two of them.
