Forward Draymond Green is one of the best players on the Golden State Warriors, and there’s no doubt that he is an elite defensive player. For many years, Green has been a key cog in their system, but there is a chance that he may leave at the end of the season if he declines his player option and becomes a free agent.

On their end, it seems as though the Golden State Warriors want to keep Draymond Green, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. He did however note that there will be “several contenders” that will potentially be high on Green as a free agent as well, however, so the Warriors will have some competition when trying to retain him.

“Green and the Warriors will have his future to work through in the offseason, with a $27.6 million player option providing several paths. League sources say the Warriors want to retain Green. Green averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists in 73 games this season, his highest points per game and games played marks since 2017-18. Several contenders across the league will value Green as a potential free agent in the offseason.”

It is crucial for the Golden State Warriors to retain Draymond Green. He is the backbone of their defense. The key will be of course how much deeper the team is trying to go into the luxury tax, and it is unclear what their offer to Draymond Green would be if he doesn’t accept his player option.

In the playoffs, Draymond Green averaged 8.0 PPG, 7.7 RPG, and 7.7 APG for the Golden State Warriors. His efficiency has been rough as he’s only shooting 28% from the field and 20% from the 3PT range, but there’s no doubt that his impact elsewhere more than makes up for his scoring woes.

Draymond Green Has Also Been Linked With The Los Angeles Lakers

There were a number of reports that suggested Draymond Green could end up joining the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason. As of right now, they have a really good team though, so him going there at this point would be more likely if the team fails to get far in the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see what will end up happening regarding Draymond Green’s future. His defensive prowess alone makes him worth signing, and he can be a key player on any championship team.
