Stephen Curry had an incredible 2022 NBA Finals, going off on the Boston Celtics and showing that he belongs to the elite of the league (if anybody doubted that). However, not everybody is convinced he had a good series.

Shannon Sharpe recently claimed that outside of Game 4 of that series, Stephen Curry didn’t really perform well against the Celtics (3:21 mark).

“The games that he shoots the ball really, really well, is that we become so in awe because he’s heat-checking from 35 [feet] that we overlook the games that he didn’t play well in the fourth quarter,” Sharpe said. “We go back and look at the Boston series — Skip, what was that, Game 4? — in which he goes for 43, but we overlook that he really didn’t, outside of that Game 4, he really didn’t really play great.”

Sharpe said this prior to Game 3 of the Warriors vs. Kings series, and once again, Curry responded with a 36-point performance, leading his team to a big 114-97 win.

During that series, Curry went off on the Celtics during every game except for one. In Game 1, he dropped 34 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Curry added 29 points in Game 2, grabbing 6 rebounds and 4 assists. In Game 3, he responded with another 30+ game, dropping 31 on the C’s, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing 2 assists. In Game 4, he went off with 43 points, adding 10 rebounds and 4 assists to his stat sheet. Game 5 was the worst for Curry, who barely scored 16 points. Game 6 was the one for Steph, who finished with 34 points,7 rebounds, and 7 assists.

Stephen Curry Secured His First Finals MVP In The 2022 NBA Finals

Averaging 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 6 games, Curry secured his first NBA Finals MVP award, a trophy his cabinet was missing. He confirmed he belongs to the all-time greats conversation with this performance, earning a lot of respect from around the league.

At the time, Shannon Sharpe praised him, saying that no one was better than him on the court.

“Steph Curry showed he was head and shoulders above anybody else that he played,” Sharpe said last June, the day after the Warriors won the championship. “Now he had one off game — what was that, Game 5? — Game 5 in which he did not shoot the ball very well. But, if you look at the other five games, he was sensational, averaged 31.5 points a game. But Skip, I thought last night it was his efficiency in which he shot the basketball: 12-of-21 from the floor, 6-of-11 from the 3-point line. The rest of the team shot 37% from the floor.”

Shannon Sharpe in June:

‘Steph Curry was head & shoulders above EVERYONE on the Warriors, he had ONE off game’

NBA analysts are allowed to change their minds, but Sharpe has been caught contradicting himself in a big way, just like when he said Kobe Bryant was a top-2 player in NBA history and then dropped him on his personal list.

If he wants to motivate Curry to go off on the Kings, Sharpe is doing a great job, but this could backfire on him soon.
