Elon Musk Personally Paid For LeBron James’ Check Mark On Twitter

After LeBron James refused to pay and join Twitter Blue, Elon Musk personally paid to ensure James and other A-tier names still have their checks.

Being a Twitter user in 2023 is extremely disquieting after the changes that have swept the site over the last year. One of those changes has been the website handing out verified check marks to people willing to pay a subscription fee for Twitter Blue.

The site removed all the non-paid verified check marks earlier today, but LeBron’s didn’t disappear. He made it clear he wouldn’t pay to be verified and it seems Elon Musk stepped in and gave LeBron a subscription without having to pay.

NEW: Have confirmed that LeBron, who has 52 million followers and has said he won’t pay for verification, was emailed by a Twitter employee with the offer to have his sub comped “on behalf of Elon Musk.”

James did not accept but his account is showing that he paid anyway.

The clarification of LeBron refusing to accept the free subscription also shows that he might not want to stay associated with the site for long. James brings almost 53 million followers and high-profile celebrities like him drive traffic to the site. If he chooses to communicate with everyone through Instagram instead of Twitter, it’d be a massive issue for Musk and Twitter. A few others like Stephen King, ICE T, and more have also received this treatment.

LeBron James

Most NBA players are currently without verified check marks, including Damian Lillard, Kevin Durant, and many others who are no longer verified on the site. James is probably not gonna be tweeting anytime soon, with his last tweet coming 6 days ago before the Lakers’ first-round matchup against the Grizzlies started.

LeBron James Going Zero Dark Thirty

One of the mainstays of LeBron James in the playoffs used to be him going into ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ mode. This essentially means that James uninstalls social media apps from his phone to focus on the game.

This season, he hasn’t made an explicit post saying he’s going ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, but we haven’t seen any new posts from him on any platform since the playoffs started.

Given the disrespect he faced at the hands of Dillon Brooks yesterday, it may be good for him to pick up Twitter and read what people have said about him to ensure he’s motivated enough to dominate in Game 3 of the series.
