Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George went viral after the Philadelphia Eagles made the Super Bowl earlier this year. A video of George being stuck in traffic as the Eagles fans celebrated the triumph spread like wildfire on social media, and he revealed on Podcast P how one of them ruthlessly roasted him.
“Soon as I roll the window down, they like this [looking], ‘Yo, that is Paul George. Yeah, that is Paul George,'” George said. “N***a said, ‘Yo, we could’ve kept Tobias [Harris].’ [laughs]. Yo, shout out TB, it ain’t no joke at TB, but, ‘Yo, we could’ve kept Tobias if you’re gonna do this s***.’ It was funny, but it was like some s*** you take to the heart. Like, you right, facts, I got you.”
The 76ers had signed George to a four-year, $212 million deal in free agency in 2024. He was viewed as a massive upgrade over Tobias Harris, who joined the Detroit Pistons after some frustrating seasons in Philadelphia.
George didn’t prove to be an upgrade, though. He missed 41 games with injury, and even when he did play, he struggled. The 35-year-old averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in 2024-25.
In comparison, Harris had averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the 76ers in 2023-24. The fan wanted more from George, and he claims the comment did motivate him.
“I got to the crib, found the closest basketball, yo, let me get right, man,” George stated.
Unfortunately, the 76ers’ fortunes didn’t turn. They would finish the season with a miserable 24-58 record. They were 4-27 after the Eagles’ parade on Valentine’s Day, and Harris responded to George’s comments by reminding everyone about that.
“After the parade… 4-27.”

That was savage. Harris certainly doesn’t have much love for the 76ers fans, considering how they were almost always on his back. He has been much happier with the Pistons.
Harris helped the Pistons make the playoffs as the sixth seed in the East with a 44-38 record. It was the first time they had gotten to the postseason since 2019.
Harris averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game in 2024-25. He upped his scoring average to 15.7 in the playoffs, but it wasn’t enough to get the Pistons past the New York Knicks in the first round. The Knicks eliminated them in six games, but it was still a positive season.
While the Pistons will be looking to build on that campaign, the 76ers might think about making some notable changes to turn things around. It has been rumored that they would trade George, but NBA insider Jake Fischer reports he won’t be moved.
“Recent reports suggesting that the Sixers will be looking to explore George’s trade market in conjunction with the draft are a misread. There have been no indications that they are looking to package George with the No. 3 pick or try to move him on his own.”
George looks set to get a shot at redemption, and it will be interesting to see if he capitalizes on it. A strong 2025-26 season is all that it will take for 76ers fans to forget about his disastrous debut campaign.
