It’s well-documented that not everyone is a fan of the Memphis Grizzles, and there are reasons behind the dislike.
“They’re front-runners,” an anonymous player told The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Josh Robbins. “They’re just extra. They talk when they’re winning. They don’t say s**t when they’re losing. Their whole thing over there is just annoying.”
Their on-court antics haven’t sat down well with former players either. Charles Barkley was one of the former NBA stars who slammed Memphis earlier this season.
“The Grizzlies talk too much. They got to start playing. They’re like, well, we’re not worried about anybody in the West; we’re worried about the [Boston] Celtics in the East,” Barkley said on Inside The NBA.
“Man, y’all ain’t got out of the West, yet. Y’all ain’t done nothing. So they need to quit talking and start playing.”
It’s unfortunate, but the Grizzlies’ reputation precedes them. Only time will tell if they can back up their antics in the playoffs.
The Memphis Grizzlies Will Look To Bounce Back In Game 2 Against The Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers may have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but the Memphis Grizzlies were firm favorites heading into the postseason skirmish between both sides. However, they were blown away 128-112 in the first game.
To make matters worse, Ja Morant suffered a sprain to his right hand and is now a game-time decision ahead of Wednesday’s matchup. The Grizzlies cannot afford to go 0-2, and while they may have some promising backup names on their roster, they will face a stiff task against the Lakers.
It’s always challenging to come off a 0-2 deficit, and the Grizzlies, with or without Morant, will be fully aware of the fact that they will face an uphill task to clamber back to contention.
If there was ever a time for them to shut down their doubters, then Wednesday’s clash at the FedEx Forum is where it all starts.
