The Los Angeles Lakers made the playoffs this year as the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference. Though this is definitely a step up from last season, it is clear that the team’s ultimate goal is a championship.

If the team doesn’t manage to win a championship this year, it is possible that some changes will be made. A recent report revealed that the Lakers could end up targeting Jordan Clarkson this off-season.

“There are teams that will look at him and say, ‘That is exactly what we need,’” one Eastern Conference executive said, per Sean Deveney of Heavy. “Reliable scorer, smart player, bench or starter, good in the locker room, good presence. The Lakers really wanted to see if they could shake him free there. But Utah would rather get him to a new deal and if they are going to move him, do it later on when they have a little more leverage. You don’t have much leverage trading a free agent. I would not be surprised to see the Lakers make another run.”

There is no doubt that Jordan Clarkson could end up being a good addition to the Los Angeles Lakers, as he is one of the best role players in the league. He is a stellar scorer that can provide offense off the bench and has won the SMOY award in the past.

This season, Jordan Clarkson averaged 20.8 PPG, 4.0 RPG, and 4.4 APG for the Utah Jazz. He averaged career highs in PPG and APG, and he can definitely help a contending team if he signs with one in free agency.

Jordan Clarkson Reportedly Wants $20 Million A Season In Free Agency

There is no doubt that Jordan Clarkson is a valuable player, and in this year’s free agency, he’d like to be paid according to his value. A previous report revealed that the guard wants a contract that gets him $20 million annually.

“Jordan Clarkson is not considered a trade candidate at this time, as Utah would like to keep the veteran scorer beyond this season, sources said. The Jazz, though, are prohibited by CBA rules from offering Clarkson a contract extension in his desired range of $20 million of average annual value, and Clarkson appears set to reach unrestricted free agency.”

This is definitely a lot to give up for a sixth man, but Jordan Clarkson’s production definitely makes it worth it for a team. It becomes even more worth it if the deal is less than three seasons long, as they won’t have to pay Clarkson as he ages.

Hopefully, we do see Jordan Clarkson get what he wants in free agency. He is definitely a fantastic ball player, and we’ll see what teams end up offering him in the future.
