In a recent appearance on the ‘I AM ATHLETE’ podcast, Celtics legend Paul Pierce detailed a rather hilarious exchange between his former teammate, Kevin Garnett, and former Bulls center Joakim Noah.
During a game some years ago, Noah made the mistake of telling Kevin Garnett about his fandom and even admitted to having a poster of him growing up. Epically, Garnett responded with a very simple yet blunt message:
“We at the free-throw line. KG right here, Noah right here (points with his hand), and I’m right here,” Pierce said. “KG’s intense, he’s looking down and dripping sweat. Joakim goes up to him ‘Ayo KG you was my favorite player dog, I had your poster on my wall!’ KG was like ‘Get off my D**K ! F**k you!’ This was in the game, somebody was at the free-throw line. You can’t talk to KG right there, we in the middle of the thick!”

As a KG fan, Joakim should have known better than to try and chat it up with Kevin Garnett in the middle of a game. When it comes to competitiveness and old-school attitude, Garnett is the perfect example of how extreme some players can get during game time, but it’s part of what made him such a dominant player.
Isiah Thomas Wanted To Draft KG In 1995
Garnett can often be overlooked by younger fans today, but there is no question that he’s one of the greatest power forwards to ever play the game. Before he even played a single game in the NBA, former NBA executive (and Pistons champion) Isiah Thomas said he was hoping to get KG to his team during the ’95 draft.
“When I saw Kevin Garnett… I was like, ‘That’s my Raptor 2.’ That’s who I want… I see Kevin Garnett and I was like, ‘He’s the one.’ He got it all. He got the understanding, he’s smart, he’s got the personality, he’s got the motor, he’s got the engine, he’s got everything you looking for.”
Of course, IT would actually help convince the Timberwolves to pick p KG instead, and the rest is history. But if there’s one thing that Garnett will be remembered for besides his dominant play, it’s his fiery spirit and ultra-competitive nature. Clearly, Joakim Noah was among many who valued those virtues.
