There is no question that NBA superstar Damian Lillard is one of the top player sin the game. As an elite shooter, playmaker, and leader, Dame has found a niche in the city of Portland and it was translated into a fine career for the 7x All-Star.
This season, despite the Blazers finishing no higher than 13th in the standings, Dame had his best season yet and he feels it should be rewarded with an All-NBA first team selection.
“Looking back at it, if I just isolate my performance alone, I think it was the best season of my career. Just how I felt out there, the way I was able to do what I was doing, how efficient it was, how I recovered from game to game, how I was on top of my routine and how sharp I was able to stay. I think it’s probably the best season of my career and I think I should be first team All-NBA for the second time.”
With averages of 32.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game on 46.3% shooting, there is no question that Lillard is an All-NBA player this season. But it’s rather bold for him to make a pitch for first team with his team so far out of the playoff picture.
“I always look at how I played and then if we’re not winning games I’m always looking at it like am I playing how I should be playing,” said Dame. “What could I have done differently to impact winning? What could I have done differently so we had come out with a different type of result and I always look for where I played a part that’s not winning. I think I place more of a burden on myself than I should sometimes.”
Has Dame Played His Last Season For The Blazers?
Things are looking pretty bleak for the Trail Blazers right now. Unless they win the draft lottery this summer, there aren’t going to be many ways they can improve without gutting the few high-quality players they have left.
This bind has caused many to question if Dame will finally give up on winning in Portland and hand in a trade request this offseason.
Of course, Lillard likely has no intentions of going anywhere, but the noise will never stop unless he makes a meaningful postseason run.
